Vocational Scholarship

Wood Processing & Forestry Our industry needs people with passion, enthusiasm and knowledge to progress themselves. Scholarships allow deserving students and new employees to the industry, an opportunity to attain their educational goals, meet their professional objectives and succeed to their fullest ability.

The industry is keen to encourage professional development for the benefit of the forestry industry as a whole.

Terms of Funding

Applications must be sent in by the March 1, 2018

There are two scholarships to be awarded, one which focuses on wood processing and one for general forestry. Please identify which you are applying for when requested.

Funding Available for Awards

Each scholarship is worth $1500 and will be presented to the recipient in full at the Eastland Wood Council Skilled Professional Awards in May 2018.

Scholarship Award Criteria

The selection criteria are the specific standards used to identify qualified applicants who ultimately will be recommended as scholarship recipients.

  • A student enrolled in full time relevant Tertiary study or
  • An employee within the industry who aspires to improve their skills, knowledge and value to the employer with extra study
  • Pre course academic achievement, including grades, standardised test scores and achievement test scores.
  • Expected career outcome in specific industry activities.
  • Work history, awards and recognition.
  • Recommendation of Principal Tutor or employer.
  • Community/extracurricular involvement.
  • New Zealand Citizenship or Permanent Resident.
  • Resident of Tairawhiti Region

 

NB. If no applicants should match the criteria or eligibility, Eastland Wood Council will ascertain if the scholarship is awarded in that year or if the criteria can be extended to include other applicants.
