The Tairawhiti Road Transport Programme (TRTP) has been established to ensure that the local road freight transport, forestry industry and heavy equipment operators are able to attract, recruit, train and retain licensed class 4 & 5 truck drivers.
Our Aim
-
To ensure the local industry has an ongoing supply of skilled, trained, work ready drivers to meet the current and ongoing demands.
-
To increase the number of people achieving their class 4-5 licences, and creating a pathway into employment across the Tairāwhiti Road Freight Transport Industry (TRFT).
-
To develop integrated education and training pathways to employment, with the collaboration and cooperation of key stakeholders – including education, training, MSD, Industry bodies and employers.
-
To develop and implement a marketing and communications plan to showcase awareness of the industry and the career opportunities available; this includes leveraging off the successful “Trucks, Roads & People” road safety programme led by the EWC.
-
The goal is to connect all the initiatives to provide an effective and efficient pathway for people to ‘learn then earn’ in the RFT industry and see it as a career.
