State of Emergency in Tairāwhiti

Forestry industry acknowledges declared state of emergency in Tairāwhiti

23 MARCH 2022

Eastland Wood Council – Te Kaunihera Pororākau o Te Tairāwhiti observes and supports the declared state of local emergency in the Tairāwhiti region, the result of record rainfall (more rainfall is forecasted).

Our biggest priority remains the safety and wellbeing of our workforce and too their family’s and community.

The GDC road network remains closed to heavy vehicles until Friday (at least). EWC members agree it is important to protect the network and to have the time needed to assess damage caused by this latest weather event.

EWC believes in the value of collaboration, which is why our members have offered support to Downer for road works during the declared state of emergency.

We also have resources available to the Gisborne District Council, including; Earthworks Machinery, Trucks, Radio Comms, Utes and People. EWC is in close contact with GDC.

For updates, please check the GDC Civil Defence website.

Covid remains a major risk to the health and wellbeing of Tairāwhiti. Please remain vigilant and adhere to Covid guidelines. Click here to see how to protect yourself and others from C0vid.

Self-care too is a priority. Ask for help if you need – you matter!
